MY OFFICE

WHAT YOU SEE
What to expect
My lessons are designed to be fully client - centred, meaning my aim will align with your goal throughout the process.
We can cover a variety of different topics (please click here to see what we can cover). There will be some vocal exercises, such as scales and warm-ups. Please don't worry if you have never done these before - these will be specifically tailored to you, your voice and the songs you would like to work on.
I believe it's super important to know the "why" behind these exercises. This is so you can effectively implement this new information and know how and what to do when using your voice outside of lessons (we don't have to go super in depth, unless you want to! It be tailored to the level you would like to work at).
It is also important to apply this new, learned information to the songs you would like to sing. Please try to think of a song you would like to work on together (this can be either: a song you already sing, or a song you struggle to sing).
Vocal Technique
A solid understanding of vocal technique is essential for any singer.

There are 4 things we have control over when we sing:
-
Respiration (this is what initiates our sound)
-
Phonation (opening and closing the vocal folds)
-
Articulation (formation of words)
-
Resonation (how the sound is amplified)

Gaining control over these and being able to choose and change how you use them, provides the concrete skills and tools necessary to tackle any vocal style.
Vocal Health Support
Understanding vocal health is fundamental to every voice user (singers or not)!

I am a qualified Vocal Health First Aider with Vocal Health Education.
This means I have:
-
An understanding of vocal health and the factors that can affect vocal wellbeing.
-
Practical skills to spot the signs of a range of vocal dysfunction and imbalance.
-
Knowledge to help someone towards recovery by:
-
Guiding them in self-management, or
-
Passing them on to further support, whether that is specialist vocal rehabilitation coaching or clinical treatment
-
-
An understanding of how to prevent vocal health issues from occurring in the workplace.
(quoted from the Vocal Health Education website).

Style & Artistry
What sets your favourite singer apart from others? While vocal technique is crucial for the foundations of your voice - you may find style is the part that may be most important to you! This is because it is what other people hear, it is what will define YOUR unique sound!

There are tons of artistic choices that artists/singers make - some of them, you may have never even noticed when listening, or even in your own voice when you're singing!
Performance & Audition Prep
Ensure you’re fully prepared (and confident!) for your important performances, auditions, theatre school auditions, talent shows, competitions, or even your local gigs and/or busking!
If there are any songs and/or material you would like me to look at prior to our lesson. Please send this to me via email. Please send it as soon as you can but a minimum of 2 days before our lesson (this is just to ensure I have as much time as I can to look through this). Thank you!
Mixed Ages & Abilities
We all begin somewhere!
Each lesson is personalised to fit you, your voice and the goals you want to achieve. It is my priority to ensure you feel safe and comfortable every step of the way, so we can make the most of your lessons and singing experience!
You can benefit from voice lessons at any age:
-
I suggest a minimum age of 8 to ensure you gain the most from your lessons (however this can vary from child to child).
-
For those under the age of 10, I recommend 30-minute lessons.
-
As you keep aging, your voice will continue to change and evolve (you have never actually fully experienced your voice at the age you are now)! This is why your favourite singer will still continue to have vocal coaching (even though you may feel they're 'perfect'). It is always important to keep refining your technique and skills for optimal vocal health and performance. This is why I still take regular lessons and have check in's with my vocal coach!
Professional Speaking
Would you like to prepare for your speech or are you considering reading audiobooks? These are just a few examples of some of the reasons clients have booked in for professional speaking classes.
We will cover fundamental para-linguistic techniques to elevate your speaking skills. These are the aspects of speech that add the meaning, emotion, and context of what you're trying to say to the listener.
We can cover aspects like:
-
Intonation (melody / rise and fall)
-
Pitch
-
Volume
-
Tone
-
Speed
-
Rhythm
-
Pauses
Neurodiversity-affirming means appreciating and valuing differences in how people think, learn, and process information.

In a neurodiversity-affirming approach, the teacher:
-
Respects how each person learns and communicates.
-
Adapts teaching methods to suit individual needs, whether that's offering extra resources, dedicating more time, using clear and simple instructions, or creating a more flexible learning environment.
-
Focuses on strengths and helps clients feel confident in their abilities, rather than pushing them to conform to traditional learning styles.
-
Creates a safe space where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves through their voice without judgment.

Making Practice Easier
Practice can look very different for everybody. This is why I believe it's super important to know the "why" behind these exercises so you can effectively implement or be mindful of this whilst you're either singing or listening outside of lessons.
Practice can look very different for everybody. This is why I believe it's super important to know the "why" behind these exercises so you can effectively implement or be mindful of this whilst you're either singing or listening outside of lessons.
I will always offer you the option to record the audio of your lesson so you can either listen back, or sing through with yourself again later. I can record on my end and email this to you on the same day, for you to download. For some people, this can make their practice even easier. It means you can also use these recordings to track and monitor your progress. (I still have a copy of my first ever singing lesson on a CD)!

I can make notes for you during the lesson (using your own words) and send them to you as a PDF document for you to read later. This is especially helpful when we annotate song lyrics which gives a visual reminder of what we have worked on together during a lesson.

After your first lesson with me, I will also send you the Client Area log in information (this gets updated once a year). Here you will find: recordings of scales and copies of all the PDF documents and resources we may use together in lessons.

Ultimately, you know yourself, your brain and how easy / or difficult it is for you to practice in certain ways. If you know what works well and what helps you, please let me know and I can implement this in our classes.
