Frequently Asked Questions
In our first lesson, we’ll start with a quick conversation about your voice. This is so I can understand where you feel it is now and where you’d like it to be. This helps me get to know you, understand how you feel about your voice, and discuss any areas you’d like to improve or goals you want to achieve.
I’ll then have a listen to your voice, starting with a simple scale (don’t worry if you’re not familiar with this) and/or, if you’re comfortable, a short part of a song you have chosen.
From there, we will start to be outlining where we are going to be working, and why - and how this will help you get closer to what you're aiming for.
It is important to me, that you feel safe and comfortable in every lesson, as this is YOUR lesson and it is is tailored to YOU. So please feel free to jump in and ask any and all questions you may have along the way.

All lessons take place online via Zoom, which I absolutely love because it allows me to work with people from all over the world, right in the comfort of their own homes!
I believe feeling comfortable during a singing lesson is essential; singing is a vulnerable activity, and being at ease can really enhance your learning experience!
Absolutely! Online lessons offer all the benefits of in-person sessions, with the added advantage of learning from the comfort of your own home (no stressful travel or parking needed!)
Being relaxed and at ease during a voice lesson can make a real difference, and being at home often enhances this.
Plus, it allows you to practice in the same environment, helping you to recreate and reinforce exactly how you felt singing during the lesson.
I also personally complete all of my teacher training classes and have my own lessons online. I have found it to be incredibly beneficial for my own learning.
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to this question - as it depends on a lot of aspects (such as your practice frequency, goals, and budget).
Practice is essential (and this looks very different from person to person). So it's important to ensure you're going through the right things between lessons. If you are unsure how or what to practice and how we can make it more effective and easier for you - please reach out!
Regular, smaller practice sessions will be the most beneficial. If you feel you can sing through what we have gone through in our latest class - daily, then weekly lessons would be ideal to continue your learning and progress toward your goals.
However, if you find it challenging to sing through things frequently, then having lessons every two weeks or occasionally might suit you better. This might give you that little extra time to reinforce what we have been covering.
On the other hand, if you struggle with initiating practice - scheduling future lessons can also serve as motivation, encouraging you to work towards your goals and practice effectively.
Absolutely! We all begin somewhere! Plus lessons are always personalised to you, your voice and the goals you want to achieve.
It is my priority to ensure you feel safe and comfortable every step of the way, so we can make the most of your learning experience!
We all begin somewhere and you can benefit from voice lessons at any age!
Each lesson is personalised to fit you, your voice and the goals you want to achieve. It is my priority to ensure you feel safe and comfortable every step of the way, so we can make the most of your lessons and singing experience!
You can benefit from voice lessons at any age:
I suggest a minimum age of 8 to ensure you gain the most from your lessons (however this can vary from child to child).
For those under the age of 10, I recommend 30-minute lessons.
As you keep aging, your voice will continue to change and evolve (you have never actually fully experienced your voice at the age you are now)! This is why your favourite singer will still continue to have vocal coaching (even though you may feel they're 'perfect'). It is always important to keep refining your technique and skills for optimal vocal health and performance. This is why I still take regular lessons and have check in's with my vocal coach!
This is a challenging question to answer, as it depends on many various factors (such as where you are currently at, the specific goals you are aiming for, how much you manage to practice, any potential bad habits you may have, and your vocal health). Additionally, some people can learn faster than others, so progress can vary from client to client. Overall, it is a very personalised and different answer for each client.
Even when you feel like you're in a great place vocally (you may feel consistent and at the top of your game), it is always beneficial to check in with a vocal coach from time to time. This is because your voice will continue to change, develop and age as time passes. So regular guidance can help you adapt your technique to make sure you can continue to maintain your voice at this high standard. This is why I still continue to train my own voice with my vocal coach and also why your favourite singer will most likely still continue to train with a vocal coach.
Yes (if it is relevant and you feel comfortable and safe to do so)!
Voice lessons with me are always completely confidential and if you're in the UK, by law, the teacher will have a data protection / GDPR policy in place which means your information will be safe and secure (however please always do your due diligence and check for this before working with your vocal coach).
Your medical history can be vital as the voice is an integral part of the body. Anything that has an impact on your body can also impact your voice. In fact, certain medications (sometimes completely unrelated) can affect the voice.
We also all learn differently, so if there is anything I can adjust to enable you learn better and get the most out of your lessons - please let me know.
The more information I can gather - the better I can tailor the lessons to suit you, make reasonable adjustments but most importantly - make sure everything I recommend is safe!
If you take medication and are unsure if this could have an impact on your voice, click here to check.
Yes! Practice and reinforcing what we learned in the previous lesson is a super important part of the learning process.
For example, if an athlete only trained once a week, they might not reach their full potential or improve effectively - it's exactly the same with the voice!
I will always offer you the option to record the audio of your lesson (which I highly recommend). This is so you can either listen back, or sing through with yourself again later. I can record on my end and email this to you on the same day, for you to download. For some people, this can make their practice even easier. It means you can also use these recordings to track and monitor your progress. (I still have a copy of my first ever singing lesson on a CD)!

I can make notes for you during the lesson (using your own words) and send them to you as a PDF document for you to read later. This is especially helpful when we annotate song lyrics which gives a visual reminder of what we have worked on together during a lesson.

After your first lesson with me, I will also send you the Client Area log in information (this gets updated once a year). Here you will find: recordings of scales and copies of all the PDF documents and resources we may use together in lessons.
Ideally, practicing mindfully every day would be fantastic, but I understand that not everyone can fit that into their schedule. Even just 5 minutes a day can be beneficial. Research shows that shorter practice sessions spread out, little and often throughout the day and week are more effective than cramming a few hours into just one day a week.

Ultimately, you know yourself, your brain and how easy / or difficult it is for you to practice in certain ways. If you know what works well and what helps you, please let me know and I can implement this in our classes.
I have been teaching for nearly 10 years! I have an extensive background in vocal training and different teacher certifications.
I am super proud to always continue to learn and make sure I am always up to date with the latest voice developments, science and research.
